Arlington Cemetary 1

Today's trip has two themes: walking and girl scouts, too much of both.

You see, 250,000 girl scouts dressed in matching neon shirts descended upon the city to sing in front of the monuments. They flooded the subway system, jamming the fare gates, and causing the rest of us to realize that 90% of the nation, or at least 90% of parents of girl scouts who go to DC to sign, are massively overweight.

Enough about girl scouts. Now let's talk about walking.

I went to Arlington Cemetary. You get off the metro and start walking. This guy's like, go that way. You see that house on the hill and think gee, I wonder if I can take a bus there, because it sure looks like a terrible hike.

Well, you can take a bus tour. The only problem is, the line to buy tickets, consisting mostly of girl scouts, goes way out of the visitors center. So I started walking.

The cemetary is really really really big, and you can't take short cuts, you need to walk on official roads. It seems to be split into two sections, the old old stuff (big tombstones) and the newer stuff (world war 2 onwards, smaller stuff). See split below:

The closest thing to the visitors center (and it's not that close and it's uphill) is JFK's tomb.

At this point I kind of went the wrong direction, but I got a shot of the back of JFK's tomb and people looking at god knows what.
